GRMC Gets Help from Monsanto Site With $20,000 Grant

GRINNELL, Iowa (July 2014) –Grinnell Regional Medical Center (GRMC) provides vital support for the Poweshiek County community, serving approximately 40,000 residents. Recently, the medical center received a helping hand from local Monsanto employees--in the form of a $20,000 grant. The grant was facilitated by the Grinnell Seed Production site, as part of the Monsanto Fund’s 2014 site grant initiative.
GRMC’s latest comprehensive campaign, called Moving at the Speed of Life, is working to raise $7.5 million by the year 2017, when the medical center will celebrate its 50th anniversary of service. The Monsanto Fund donation will help them achieve one of their goals of renovating the medical center’s emergency room and creating an urgent care unit.
“The campaign focuses on enhancing services, facilities, and technology at GRMC to meet the healthcare needs of the community while also supporting annual needs of the medical center,” said Denise Lamphier, director of communications and development for GRMC. “Our local site and the Monsanto Fund have been great supporters of GRMC over the years.”
Each winter, Monsanto employees can invite nonprofit organizations to apply for grants, and winners are then selected to receive the grants through the Monsanto Fund. The goal of the site grant program is to address critical needs in rural communities where farmers and Monsanto employees live and work. Primary focus areas for funding include K-12 education and critical community needs such as hunger, nutrition and first responders.
“GRMC is an important part of our community and helping them make improvements that will provide better emergency care is something we are proud to support,” said Al Henderson, Grinnell Seed Production site.
This year, the Monsanto Fund awarded 137 site grants to nonprofit organizations, and made 50 contributions to local United Way organizations in 27 states and in Puerto Rico, with over $1.5 million distributed in total. In Iowa, 23 site grants were awarded and total $206,737. Nationally, the Monsanto Fund awarded a total of $1,094,343 to community improvement organizations in 2014.
